ANALYSIS OF LEVEL 4 VIDEO
For this task, as a counterpoint to the 'Sophie Barrett' low-level video I am analysing what was done well and what may still need to be improved on a piece of AS Coursework given a Level 4. I will be applying all of the skills and knowledge gathered about different camera shots, angles and techniques and what effect they have on the audience. I'll also be underlining the reasons why this piece of Coursework was given that specific mark. By doing so, we'll be able to identify what useful techniques and skills were used and how we can similarly apply these to produce a top-band piece of AS Coursework. We'll also be highlighting what wasn't done so effectively and the mistakes made so that we can learn what to avoid while shooting our film.
What was done well and what could be improved:
The video begins with the name of the production company 'Doglights' this shows that they are following the structure and order of a typical film's opening credits. This shows that they are applying their knowledge gained by watching films which follow a similar pattern of opening credits. In the background, we can see a lot of hand held filming used, zooming in and out of focus creating a hazy and chaotic effect. We see streaks of red, what appears to be blood, this immediately introduces the audience to the genre of the film as being a horror/psychological thriller. The audience is also hinted the genre of the film by the low lighting used in the film, this adds a sense of darkness and mystery to the film and gives a sinister feel to it. The camera then draws into focus and shows a person scrubbing a bathtub
