STORY BOARD

Storyboard

These are our first four shots where our characters meet. Each shot was designed to show the emotions of the characters involved in the scene. To show the emotions we would use a series of close-ups and mid-shots to emphasise what we wanted the audience to see. In the end however, we opted not to film in public as the violence in our movie caused distress to members of the public.

These two scenes were going to be the kidnapp scenes but due to the fact that police are on high alert to situations that involve extreme violence we could not film this scene with unwanted police attention. However, if we did film these scenes we would of used mid-shots and long-shots to establish the surroundings of the action that was taking place and our characters would have been wearing black clothes, with their hoods up. We regreted not filming these scenes, but it was something that would of caused a lot of problems with the local authorities.

The torture scene was the main scene for us. We used many close-ups, mid-shots and POV shots when filming the scene. We used props like a movie gun, blood capsules and a knife. We had to make sure that the clips of our filming were short to create that high-speed effect on the audience. This scene was easy for the audience to relate to, and understand what was going on.

ANALYSIS OF LEVEL 4 VIDEO

ANALYSIS OF LEVEL 4 VIDEO

For this task, as a counterpoint to the 'Sophie Barrett' low-level video I am analysing what was done well and what may still need to be improved on a piece of AS Coursework given a Level 4. I will be applying all of the skills and knowledge gathered about different camera shots, angles and techniques and what effect they have on the audience. I'll also be underlining the reasons why this piece of Coursework was given that specific mark. By doing so, we'll be able to identify what useful techniques and skills were used and how we can similarly apply these to produce a top-band piece of AS Coursework. We'll also be highlighting what wasn't done so effectively and the mistakes made so that we can learn what to avoid while shooting our film.

What was done well and what could be improved:

The video begins with the name of the production company 'Doglights' this shows that they are following the structure and order of a typical film's opening credits. This shows that they are applying their knowledge gained by watching films which follow a similar pattern of opening credits. In the background, we can see a lot of hand held filming used, zooming in and out of focus creating a hazy and chaotic effect. We see streaks of red, what appears to be blood, this immediately introduces the audience to the genre of the film as being a horror/psychological thriller. The audience is also hinted the genre of the film by the low lighting used in the film, this adds a sense of darkness and mystery to the film and gives a sinister feel to it. The camera then draws into focus and shows a person scrubbing a bathtub

LOYAL / OUR FINAL PROJECT

risks + props

The Props
We had a black BB gun in our movie and we were not able to carry on filming with it on us. It was a massive problem filming in public with the gun. The gun was needed though as it allows us to keep up with the whole theme of action. We were stopped by armed police whilst recording and we did understand that this could of happened before we started filming but we thought that with special precautions we could avoid this from happening, but it did and luckily no on was arrested or killed by the police.

Also during the filming of our torture scene we found that using the knife and putting it up against one of the characters face was something that could have had a very bad outcome. To make sure this didn't end with someone going to hospital, the person holding the knife would hold the blade away from the other characters face. Also we made sure everyone in the room was observing the scene as it went on. Everyone made sure that there was no messing around when we were filming this.  Thankfully no -one in the scene was hurt by accident or careless behaviour.

THE BBFC / PROJECT X

The BBFC
Analysis of BBFC
Our movie will be classed as an 18 or over movie. This will be due to the strong violence (the kidnapping and murder) and drug transactions in the movie. These images will be unsuitable for people under the age of 18. The story line could also inspire any younger audiences to commit serious crimes like the ones in our movie

RISK ASSESSMENT

Risk assessment

We will be using real looking guns in our movie and need to be careful about not making members of the public feel threatened. Whilst trying to avoid making members of the public feel unsafe by our recording, armed police did turn up to the scene and we could've ended up in body bags, but thankfully we handled the situation very well. After talking to the police we managed to get back all of our equipment and avoid being sent to a police station. After this we realised that we couldn't carry on filming in public and decided to change the scenes of our movie completely

MORE MISE-EN-SCENE

MISE-EN-SCENE
Location: There will be a few different locations for each of our scenes. The scene where the dealer and customer are making contact through the phone, the audience will see one of the characters sitting in a car in a car park. The second scene will be the two characters meeting in an alley way and doing the deal. The third scene will be in a shed, this is the torture scene.

Props: We will have flour/baby powder that will be wrapped up to look like a brick of cocaine. We will also have a vehicle for the kidnapping scene. In two of the scenes we will have a BB-gun that looks like a real gun and along with this, in the torture scene we will use blood capsules.

Lighting in our scenes: in our scenes we will have a mixture of high key lighting and low key lighting. The high key lighting will be used when the character is being tortured. The rest of the scenes will have low key lighting to show how things will take a dark turn up until the torture scene thats when the audience will know that things have gotten serious.

Costumes: The costumes will be lavish and over the top. Most of the things we will see are going to be like large jackets with fur, chains and luxury watches. This will again keep up the stereotypes of drug dealers being lavish and reckless with their money.

Sound: We will have edited sound effects of what happens throughout the scenes, these will be diegetic sounds and ambient sounds. With the non-diegetic sounds we will have the soundtrack from the Godfather and the instrumental from Meek Mill, "Who You're Around".

COSTUME DESIGN

Costume Design

In our movie the characters will be portrayed as very rough and very insensitive. This means that the characters will have to dress in 'street' clothing. By this I mean that luxury brand clothing will be worn jeans will be sagging and a lot of jewellery will be worn.

Benny will have a calm and collective attitude to everything that is going on in his life. He has a tendency to live lavishly, but during business he dresses modestly. We will make sure that we meet the stereotypes of someone who is trying to stay under the 'radar'.

Rick will have a really intimidating attitude towards people and will like to show off more. His style of clothing will be over the top and 'bait'. The audience will see that Rick is not a particularly easy character to approach, this will be established through the way he looks and talks.

STORY BOARD

Story board
In the first shot we will see Benny making a phone call to his old friend. Benny will be sat in a stash house were there will be a lot of equipment that he may need for his drug operation around him. In this scene we will see Benny on the phone and sat on a sofa with a table in front of him, full of 'product'. We will use a mid-shot at a high angle to show Benny's appearence and some of the things around him whislt he is on the phone. We will have a mid-shot at a slight high angle to show the audience what they need to see. This is so that the audience starts to jump to conclusions about what is going to occur in the next scene.

The next scene will have a meeting between Benny and Rick in a car park. This scene will have Rick ready to set up Benny. A car will be parked in one of the spaces with Ricks 'crew' inside it. Once Benny hands the 'product' over Rick will pull a gun and the car will pull up and the rest of his crew will put a pillow case on Benny's head and tie his hands. At this point we will have a long-shot followed up by a series of mid-shots and close-ups of the violent act taking place.

We will also have a torture scene where Benny is 'taken care of'. At this point we will use a series of close ups and mid shots where Rick tortures Benny. In the scene we will have a light that will show Benny's face only and the background will be pitch black. At the end of the scene we will see the gun prop put to Benny's face and a blackout of the shot with a non-diegetic gunshot sound over the blackout scene. In this scene a variety of close-ups, mid-shots and long-shots we be used. Also many of the shots will be at a tilt and high and low angles will be used to emphasise who has the power and who does'nt. All of the shots will change in quick succession; this will emphasise that the victim is in pain and deaparate for assistance.

These are the main scenes of our movie however to make the introduction around two minutes long we will use slow motion effects and study famous movies and see how there scenes where produced and how they make the audience connect with the scene. Along with the dialogue

Rick: "What?"

Durk: "Kill him, he's a witness to what has just happened."

Rick: "With pleasure."

LOCATION

Location of shots

This location here is a quiet and remote location. It would be a perfect location to have a criminal deal go down as not many people will walk by or have any sort of social interaction here. However this may be quite a good location for a kidnapping, it also has problems such as being right next to a hotel and football stadium. So on certain nights this car park could be buzzing and we may not be able to film without a situation occuring like the police being called. However for our scene this is a really ideal location.

When Benny is on the phone with his client we could be in a coffee shop acting as if he is having another business meeting with another client until he is interrupted by a phone call from an old school friend who needs some help. This is a good location as it can appear as if the whole drug dealer theme is legit as in many movies big dealers are always in cafe's and restaurants. However, we may be removed from the property for filming and customers may become an obstacle as they may ruin our shots and talk over what we are filming and not let our characters dialogue be heard.

Here we have an abandoned house where the torture scene can take place. This location would make for a great establishing shot however it seemed to be very hard to actually enter the property. If we cannot enter this property we have another but this is the most ideal one as it's presence is very eerie. With this location we can easily have a great torture scene and the property seems like a very suitable place for it to take part.
