MEDIA GENRE

Genre E: Horror

The music has a slow beat and a low pitch. It creates a tense setting as it is very eerie, The mise en scene in the opening credits is the beautiful landscape and the lone car gliding down the road, this shot is a birds eye view shot that is slowly zooming into the car suggesting that the people in the car are the protagonists. The establishing and long shots in the scene also adds to the tension as we can see how vast and empty the landscape is, the tension is created because the car keeps going further into the landscape and there are no signs of civilisation; this gets the audience asking what where to happen if they got into trouble? The tension is futher enhanced by the music speeding up and the birds eye shot shows a thin road with thick plants and trees swallowing up the lonely car as if it is implying that the occupants are going to get caught up in something. When the scene starts and the establishing shot of the river comes on, the audience see the surface and the reflections of the hills and mountains around the river. However, we can't see 'beneath' the surface and this makes the audience contemplate about what couls actually happen. The opening scene establishes that there will be some sort of twist to the movie as it is to innocent to carry on the way that it is.

Genre D : Thriller/action

The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo - this has a soundtrack that has a very fast beat and a high pitch. It is very intimidating and along with the dark animated visuals and a series of close-ups and mid-shots that follow each other with quick succession the audience can interprete that this is going to be a film with a lot of action. The mise en scene aspect of the opening scene is very dark low key lighting. The opening scene has an element of confusion added to it by the really weird props added to the scene with the random key board and fire bird and there being no link between them. The low key lighting however shows that this film is going to be very action packed and cold in the way events unfold.
Genre C: Action/fantasy

The music in this movie is loud and slow paced and melodious. We see a panning shot of the scene that introduces the audience to the theme of the movie. The visuals are of animated objects and a child's hands, here close ups and mid shots are used at low angles. They are in series and this gives us a view from a child's perspective. Mise en scene: high key lighting childish costumes on the toys and the location of the scene is in a bedroom. This automatically tells us that this movie is targeted towards the whole family. We can see it will be an adventure movie that will have a bad twist, but it will inevitably turn out to have a happy ending-movie genre conventions. With the opening credits we can see that this movie will be an adventure/comedy that is family friendly.

Genre B:Horror/comedy

Here the movie zombieland uses heavy metal music with a voice over that is very creepy but in a way funny. The visuals are close-ups and long shots of  the chaotic world, this is especially illustrated when the first shot is upside down and tilted slightly to confuse the audience. As the scene progresses we see a lot of mid shots showing people doing everyday tasks, but with zombies attacking them, again infering that this movie will have comedy involved with it. The element of confusion is also boosted by the fact that most of the scenes are in slow motion but the heavy metal non-diegetic music is still playing. Also the way that rules of survival are listed and random hilarious visuals are played bahind them again enhances the comedy theme that the opening scene is trying to establish. It establishes comedy/horror genre due to the music and visual contradictions.
Genre A:Action/Western

The movie The Good the Bad and the Ugly is a western style film that has loud and slow paced music that is recorded on a harmonica. The animated visuals also add to the fact that this movie will be a western, with the cartoon horse and cowboy at this point the audience can start to think ahead and think about duals, chases on horses and shoot outs in bars. Then the font of the credits that appear over pictures of the scenes in the movie have a western cowboy theme to them. That again establishes that this movie will be a classic and that it will involve action.
